Pictomania Now in Pre-order
Vlaada Chvati, designer of Through The Ages, Mage Knight, Space Alert, and Galaxy Trucker, has created a new doodling game called Pictomania. The game is played over six rounds, in which everyone pulls a card with a word on it. All players then, simultaneously, try to draw the word while watching their opponents drawings. Once you have an idea of what someone is drawing you’ll place a “guess” card in front of them and take a bonus card. Once all of the bonuses are taken everyone reveals what they drew and the guesses are scored.
Jess: The game sounds like a hilarious mad doodle dash. Considering the different levels of drawing abilities in my group, I think Diana and I are going to always have our cards guessed while our guesses for the boys’ doodles will be things like “I think it might be a cow or President Eisenhower…or maybe a car?”
Stronghold Games has just announced that Pictomania is now available for pre-order at a discounted price. You can pick up a copy for $34.97 (30% off the retail price of $49.95). The release date is set for 3/18/15 and pre-order copies will be the first to ship.
You can order a copy on the Stronghold Games Website
Brace yourselves…A Game of Thrones: The Card Game (Second Edition) is Coming
Jess: The Game of Thrones series has been a wildly popular franchise of books, shows, merchandise, and games. People just can’t seem to get enough medieval intrigue, murder, mayhem, boobs… Ok, yeah, I guess I see the appeal.
Fantasy Flight Games will be releasing the second edition of A Game of Thrones: The Card Game some time soon, and along with the release comes change. Many of the game’s mechanics have been either streamlined, eliminated, or updated, such as influence being deemed unnecessary since gold remains through the end of the round or crests which just complicated the game for new players.
FFG is upping the ante by adding two new factions to the game and the draw cap is also being replaced with a reserve value which will make it easier for players to track their hand size. There is a ton more stuff being added and changed and I’m sure we will start to see previews early this spring.
According to the site the launch of the new core set will be at Gen Con Indy 2015 (July 30th) so polish your back-stabbing daggers and get the dire wolves ready for A Game of Thrones: The Card Game Second Edition!
Game Salute’s Area 1851 due this April
Game Salute, producers of Alien Frontiers, Chaos & Alchemy, and A Duel Betwixt Us, has successfully funded their next project from Kickstarter called Area 1851. The game is slated to come out in April. Area 1851 is about five Tinkerers in the old west who are out to get the most high falutin’ reputation for tinkerin’ that ever t’was, apparently by assembling somewhat…unorthodox technology. You’ll be building gadgets and delivering them to expectant townsfolk.
Jess: The game looks like a hilarious mix of cowboys and alien technologies. It even gives some well-deserved love to the less-used d4’s of the world, as they determine how many resources you have access to. The art is also pretty hysterical. I can already hear Rob and Andrew going back and forth in drawls about the size of their ray guns. You can check it out on the Game Salute site.
Our Doom Approaches with Munchkin Gloom!
Steve Jackson Games and Atlas Games are combining forces to bring us Munchkin Gloom.
Jess: Oh man, Gloom is a broodingly wonderful game about murdering off your family members. I can’t wait to see how Steve Jackson Games incorporates the hopeless households into the game.
“The best part of Gloom is telling the saddest story, explaining how your family has it worse than anyone else,” said Gloom designer Keith Baker. “Whose lives could be more miserable than the monsters of Munchkin, who spend their days waiting for some obnoxiously overpowered adventurer to kick down their door and take their stuff?”
“Gloom is all about killing your own characters in the most creative, depressing ways possible,” said Andrew Hackard, Munchkin Czar. “No game has as many creative ways to kill things as Munchkin does! We can’t wait to see what gamers think of this combination.”
Munchkin Gloom is due for release in 2015. Also if you live in NYC check out the Munchkin Invitational at Munchkin World NYC. Munchkin World NYC will be a retail store with lots of Munchkin merchandise and a place to game together. it will be located at 353 West 46th Street, New York, NY 10036.
There is plenty to look forward to this year! So much that I can’t cover it all in one news update. Keep checking back for more release info!
