Jess’s Fav Five Kickstarters of the Week 6/9/17

It’s Friday Fav Time! Keen Beans! If you are new here, every Friday I like to collect up 5 Kickstarters that caught my interest. If you are looking for something fun to invest in then check out the list below.

1. Deception: Undercover Allies

I really like Grey Fox’s original game Deception, so an expansion sounds fantastic. Deception: Undercover Allies adds 2 new roles (Lab Technician & Inside Man), new scene tiles, 2 badge tokens (bringing the player count up to 14), and 130 means & clue cards. So in essence it is all just more to love!

You can investigate Deception: Undercover Allies on Kickstarter here.

2. Archmage

This one is an interesting strategy board game where everyone is trying to become the next Archmage by exploring and recovering  lost relics to gain favor with the differing factions. I like the modular board style and the fact that you can build up your set of spells as you play giving each character a unique play style. There is also a neat round tracker where six “Spheres of Magic” will align as they move towards a central space. Once all the tokens are stacked on the space, the game ends and the new Archmage is announced.

Check out Archmage on Kickstarter here.

3. Groves

I played Groves recently for a preview and this game is a lot of fun. It’s a worker placement/bag building hybrid game where players try purchase the most Dominion points by gathering Grove tiles. Most tiles give you abilities which will make future purchases easier. On your turn you’ll be drawing spirits from your bag to send to your groves to collect resources. You can not only send spirits to your own tiles, but once you build a portal you can send them to your opponents groves. It is a really cool push/pull as you get resources you might not be able to produce yourself, but your opponent gets your spirits.

If you want to learn more you can check out our preview here and find the Groves Kickstarter here.

4. React

I really admire when games can not only be fun, but also educational. It gives educators new ways of engaging students and making learning exciting. React! is designed to help players understand college level organic chemistry (anything that helps sort out that subject is pretty much magic to me).

To earn points in the game you will be unlocking and performing chemistry reactions. While the game might not appeal to everyone, it does point towards a future where education will be more engaging and less rote memorization.

5. Gyrating Hamsters

gyrating hamsters game

With a title like Gyrating Hamsters, how could I not check out this Kickstarter? This game is all about collecting a Hamster Horde. If you manage to get 9 hamsters of the same clan or 16 total hamsters in your horde you win. You’ll be drawing and playing ridiculous hamsters and battling opponents to claim hamsters from them. It looks light, funny, and quick to play.

Become a hamster hoarder by checking out Gyrating Hamsters on Kickstarter here.
