Klaus Teuber’s classic board game, Settlers of Catan, has been remade many times over, from card games, travel sets, apps, and even virtual reality, but now Sony Pictures is adapting Catan into a film.
The movie will be headed up by Gail Katz (Pawn Sacrifice, The Perfect Storm, and Air Force One), and includes production team Dan Lin (It and The Lego Movie) and Jonathan Eirich with a screenplay by Blaise Hemingway (Untitled Playmobile Movie and Ugly Dolls).
“We’re excited to be working with Sony to bring the iconic world of Catan to life,” Katz commented. “As huge fans of the game, we’re struck by the endless possibilities of stories that it could inspire. It’s not every day that you have the opportunity to work in a world beloved by millions of people, and expand its story for the screen.”
There’s no word yet if this will be a movie about the creation of Settlers of Catan (which makes sense to me) or a story set in the world (which would blow my mind). Either way this is exciting news!
