PAX Unplugged Schedule Has Arrived!

Excited for PAX Unplugged yet? Well we are! There are a ton of exciting events to check out at this year’s inaugural convention. I’ve gone through the list to give you a quick breakdown of everything you can expect at the show.

You want tournaments? Well, boy are you in luck! There are over 150 tabletop and video game tournaments to compete in. Some games I fully expected, like X-Wing, Hero Clix, Pokemon, Twilight Imperium, Splendor, and King of Tokyo, but there are a bunch of titles I had never considered for tournament play like Keyflower, Push Fight, Dixit, Bloodborne, and Potion Explosion. I really, really wish Josh was going just so I could see him participate in the Port Royal tournament (it would be epic, trust me).

There are a ton of games being run at the convention, but here are a couple of exciting opportunities I saw on the schedule:

D&D Adventurer’s League is running games all weekend. The games are part of an ongoing official campaign for Dungeons & Dragons using the fifth edition rules in the Forgotten Realms setting. If you’ve played in Adventurer’s League games before, you can port your previous character over, but if this is your first time, then the groups will guide you on how to create a character and start playing.

Vampire the Masquerade 5th Edition Playtest and a Vampire: The Masquerade Sabbat LARP. Are you a White Wolf fan looking to sink their teeth (haha) into the next iteration of the system? Check out the playtests that are going on throughout the weekend and once you are done, don your finest cape and fangs for the Sabbat LARP. The LARP will feature a demo of the newest version the VTM Mind’s Eye Theatre rules.

Bully Pulpit Games is running a Tabletop Sampler with games like Fiasco, Night Witches, The Warren, Carolina Death Crawl, and The Skeletons, as well as sneak previews of upcoming releases. This is a great way to check out a whole bunch of games at once.

I’m a sucker for Escape Rooms and at Unplugged you can try out “Expedition Yellow”, 30-minute cooperative walk-through experience, combining elements of escape rooms, roleplaying games, and cooperative board games (with what I suspect is a Cthulhu-esque story).

There are too many panels to list here, but some of the highlights for the convention are:

Women of Tabletop Game Design – Women are making their voices heard in the Tabletop gaming community and in this panel you can hear from some awesome ladies in the industry: Amanda Lange [Technical Evangelist, Microsoft], Nicole Kline [Designer, Cardboard Fortress], Brigette Indelicato [Graphic Designer, Avant-card Games], Carol Mertz [Director, PixelPop Festival], Heather Wilson [Designer, 9th Level Games], Heather O’Neill [Designer, 9th Level Games].

Critical Role – The first campaign may be over, but this hit roleplaying show has more to offer. Cast members Matthew Mercer, Marisha Ray, Liam O’Brien and Taliesin Jaffe will be discussing their past adventures of Vox Machina, what may be in store for the next campaign.

State of the Tabletop Industry & Beyond! – This panel has some of the top names in the industry! Scott Gaeta [President, Renegade Game Studios], Justin Ziran [President, WizKids], Ruby Nikolopoulou [Director of Marketing, CMON], Mike Webb [VP Customer Service, Alliance Game Distributors], Travis Severance [Owner, Millennium Games], and Tom Vasel [Owner, The Dice Tower] will be weighing in on their views of the tabletop industry.

How to Lose $40k on a Kickstarter – Ever thought to run your own Kickstarter? Get some tips and learn from the horror stories that Justin Robert Young and John Teasdale of Contender Games will share on this panel.

There are only a few autograph sessions, but boy are they doozies! You’ll have chances to meet the Acquisitions Incorporated Cast (Mike Krahulik, Jerry Holkins, Kate Welch, Pat Rothfuss, and Chris Perkins), Shut Up & Sit Down, and the Critical Role cast!
