Gen Con Returns This September with New Safety Measures to Protect Attendees

I have my reservations about in-person conventions right now, but for those who have been vaccinated and are ready to start partying again Gen Con has announced that they will be coming back this September.

During the weekend of September 16-19, fans will be able to attend Gen Con in Indianapolis as well as from home with Gen Con Online events and livestreaming.

Peter Adkison, Gen Con’s Co-Owner and Chairperson of the Board, made this statement about holding the in-person convention.

This is the plan. Based on guidance from the CDC, recent announcements by the federal government, and the projections of public-health experts, we believe there is significant cause for optimism for a mid-September convention to be held with reduced attendance and some smart modifications. If that changes and the experts tell us we need to shift course, then the plan will change.

He went on to say that fans who are unwilling or unable to attend will have the chance to roll their badge forward to next year with a price-lock guarantee or get a refund in dollars or system credit. Your can read his full statement here.

Health and Safety measures are still being determined and will be announced closer to the show, but Gen Con has confirmed that they will be “potential combinations of mask-wearing, temperature and symptom checks, and social distancing”. There will also be a attendance cap to help ensure there will be enough room for proper social distancing.
